Nearly 19.5 million people in Sudan are facing acute hunger.
According to the May 2026 analysis from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), about two in five people in Sudan face crisis-level hunger or worse. More than 5 million of them are in emergency conditions, and nearly 135,000 are in catastrophic conditions.
What the Latest Data Shows
The May 2026 analysis identified 14 hotspots in Darfur, South Darfur, and South Kordofan at risk of famine in the coming months.
