Dianna’s Musical Journey
Christian recording artist Dianna Hobbs has been singing for as long as she can remember, growing up in the Church of God In Christ (COGIC) tradition. While many would assume she was born with a passion for music, Dianna shares a different story. “I hated singing,” she recalls. “I would cry and beg not to have to do it.” However, her parents, Bishop Joseph Brinson, Sr., and First Lady Annie Brinson, instilled in her a deep belief that using her voice was an act of obedience in service to the Lord. This foundational lesson has guided her musical journey ever since.
“Liking to sing is less important to me than loving the One I sing about,” Dianna explains. Her musical foundation was laid early at Holy Ghost Cathedral COGIC, where her father pastored.
At just 12 years old, she stepped into the role of leading the music department after her eldest sister, the minister of music, moved away. Despite feeling unprepared, the experience taught her to arrange harmonies and write songs—skills that would shape her future career.
In 2002, Dianna was featured as a lead vocalist on her brother Christopher Brinson’s Malaco release, A Better Way, for two songs, “We Must Change (Lay Down)” and “Call On Jesus,” showcasing her skill and versatility. During this time, she was mentored by both her brother and Grammy-winning gospel producer Cedric Thompson. “Whenever I sang and Cedric thought I could push further, he’d say, ‘There’s a better man in you,’ and wouldn’t stop until I got it just right,” she recalls. Dianna credits her brother, writer of the classic “What If God Is Unhappy?” with teaching her the basics of the music industry. These early experiences helped Dianna learn to sing from the heart—a skill that has served her well throughout her career.
In 2005, Dianna had her first major breakthrough, performing original songs at a concert that drew over a thousand attendees. By the end of the night, the altar was packed with people seeking salvation, restoration, and renewal. That experience shaped her perspective. “That’s when I saw firsthand that music wasn’t just about artistry—it was about ministry.” This revelation has been the driving force behind her work ever since.
Though she didn’t have an album to sell at the time, Dianna’s impact was undeniable. She began recording and releasing original music while expanding her ministry as a Bible teacher, blogger, radio host, and podcaster—platforms that opened many doors. Over the years, her work has been featured on Billboard-charting collaborative projects, and she has independently released several solo songs. With a voice that both moves and inspires, Dianna has built a devoted following across the country. Now, in partnership with Halo Management and signed to OceanFive Christian label, she is poised to make an even greater impact, sharing her gift with the world and bringing people closer to God through her music.
